Social Media and it’s Impact on Mental Heath

Social Media is negatively impacting our society!

The negative impact that social media is having on the mental health of its users is at an high. Social media has impacted men, women and children in adverse ways with unrealistic social media trends and subcultures. My exploration into the negative impact that social media will be to show that society’s social media obsession leads into depression, higher anxiety, and unrealistic self goals.

  • The History and Evolution.

Social media can negatively impact our overall wellbeing by fueling anxiety, depression, loneliness and FOMO (fear or missing out). These issues are especially prevalent in teens and young adults. Bounds, D. (2024).

The History of Social media having a negative affect on the mental health of children and adults is as new as social media. Social media as we know it has only been around for a couple of decades and is still relatively new. Social Media usage has gone up 9% year after year on average. With female users being the majority of the users likely to experience mental health problems than males. Karim, F., (2020).
